Research and Development
Research and development activities in the Rehabilitation Foundation are carried out by the Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Development.
The Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Development carries out research, evaluation and development projects in the areas of public health, social care and welfare, employment and rehabilitation.
Aims
The Centre aims at:
- generating new and applicable knowledge on disability or marginalization processes and their prevention
- developing and evaluating medical, psychological, social and vocational rehabilitation measures and models
- evaluating and critically examining the functions of the services produced by the Finnish rehabilitation system.
The current Action Programmes of Rehabilitation Research and Development are as follows:
- Need for and allocation of rehabilitation
- Promotion of functional capacity and illness-specific rehabilitation
- Prevention of social exclusion.
Resources
Currently, the centre has personnel of about 30 social scientists, psychologists, and others. The approach draws from various disciplines, and innovative projects are an essential part of its function. The research is financed by Finland’s Slot Machine Association, Social Insurance Institution, ministries and other national sources, and by the European Social Fund.
Publications
The Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Development avails a publication series with reports published in English or with English summary. The results are disseminated in Finnish and international journals.
